Child Development

Services are available for children from infancy through adulthood who have developmental delays, behavior and/or learning problems, and stressful life situations. Assessment services are provided with the involvement of several different disciplines such as audiology, pediatrics, nursing, occupational therapy, metabolism/genetics, physical therapy, psychology, speech/language pathology, pediatric dentistry, pediatric neurology, social work, and nutrition. Looking at a child and their family in this interdisciplinary way helps better understand the child's particular learning and developmental needs.

Families are provided with a comprehensive written report after their child participates in an assessment. Assessment can take most of the day as the child and family work with a variety of different professionals. Children must be referred by their primary care physician. When the referral is received, the Intake Specialist will contact the family to explain the assessment process and send them some forms to complete. The family will be asked to complete a questionnaire and return it to the RCDC before scheduling a specific date for the assessment. In addition, the child's physician and their school, if applicable, will be asked to complete a questionnaire too. This information helps the team best prepare for the child's visit.
