Hoppin' for Health - Lesson 2: Introducing Common Medical Instruments

"Medical instruments are used by doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to help find out if our body parts are working right. Today, we are going to learn about some of these medical instruments."

Objectives:

Children will identify by name the medical instruments used most commonly in medical settings.
Children will describe the purpose of each medical instrument for checking different parts of the body.

Activity A:

"Clip art" of medical instruments, which can be used for flashcards or flannel board/bulletin board pieces, are provided in the packet. A definition of each instrument and example questions to ask the children are also provided. Use these tools to create an activity that matches your specific needs!

Activity B:

Play Riley Hospital for Children's Medical BINGO! Provided in this packet are 12 BINGO cards that use medical instruments or body parts instead of numbers. Variations are provided so that everyone does not have the same card.

Activity C:

Commit a day where the children bring in their favorite stuffed animal or doll to be the patient in your very own "Hospital Day" at your childcare center. This activity should be done after all other chosen activities, because only then will the children have mastered body parts and medical instruments.
